As most of my visitors know, I'm on funemployment right now. On the surface it seems the ideal way to get some artwork done, or to write that novel, but since I'd still like the stability of insurance a job I'm still spending about 30 hours a week looking. There don't seem to be a lot of positions out there for English/Art majors with 12 years of experience with robots and laser welders unless I move to Thailand. This still gives me about 25 hours a week more than I had when I was working, but I think I've figured out that what people run into on funemployment that keeps them from completing their goals is not so much laziness but stagnation.

For example, it is extremely difficult to find culture and inspiration living on a farm in South Dakota during a High Blizzard winter while your friends are also working or looking for work. I finally am awake while the library is open but I can't go because we only have one car and I need to get it back before the Honey has to use it. Since November I have not left the house except to drop off resumes and pick up groceries!

Art of the Day has been phenomenal so far. It forces me to look take a break from my work to walk through a virtual museum daily at Etsy, Zazzle and Fine Art America. I'm not one who could copy anyone else's style successfully, mind you, and that's not my goal, but exposing myself on a regular basis to others' interpretations of animal art is getting me to push myself to try new things and pick up old ones. Not always successfully, but every mistake is a learning experience.

Anyway, I would like to open up the series to artists who want to be Art of the Day, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I guess my two choices are posting a blog and having people leave comments and links or creating a Flickr group, but I'm not sure what the rules are on Flickr about linking to shops. (I don't think it should be something limited to Facebook or Twitter users and it would be better if it was like a public gallery.)

If either of those appeal to you, or you have a better idea, I'm so open to suggestions!

How should I go about opening Art of the Day to submissions?
